Most basketball players repeat the same technique errors for years without realizing it — because the errors happen too fast for the human eye to catch. AI form analysis identifies these mistakes in slow motion, frame by frame, giving you the specific corrections that actually improve your game.
1. Shooting Off the Palm The most common shooting error. When the ball rests on the palm rather than the fingertips, the wrist cannot flex fully at release, reducing backspin and arc consistency. AI catches this by analyzing hand position at the start of the shooting motion.
2. Elbow Flare Flaring the elbow outward during the shot creates a sideways rotation that sends the ball left or right. The elbow should stay directly under the ball throughout the shooting motion. AI measures elbow angle at every frame.
3. Early Release Releasing the ball before reaching the peak of the jump reduces arc and power. The optimal release point is at or slightly before the peak of the jump. AI tracks the relationship between jump height and release timing.
4. Crossing Feet on Defense Crossing your feet in defensive stance is the most common defensive error — it slows your lateral movement and allows offensive players to blow past you. Defensive slides should always use a step-slide pattern.
5. Dribbling With the Palm Dribbling with the palm instead of the fingertips reduces ball control and dribble speed. The ball should contact the fingertip pads, not the palm. AI analyzes hand position during dribbling sequences.
6. Not Pivoting Correctly Lifting the pivot foot before releasing the ball is a travel violation. Many players don't realize they're doing it until they see it on video. AI identifies pivot foot violations in real time.
Shooting off the palm
Ball resting on palm reduces wrist flex and backspin
Hold ball on fingertip pads with daylight between palm and ball
Elbow flare
Outward elbow creates sideways ball rotation
Keep elbow directly under ball throughout shooting motion
Early release
Releasing before jump peak reduces arc and power
Release at or slightly before peak of jump
Crossing feet on defense
Slows lateral movement, allows offensive players to drive
Use step-slide pattern, never cross feet
Palm dribbling
Reduces ball control and dribble speed
Contact ball with fingertip pads, not palm
Pivot foot violation
Lifting pivot foot before release is a travel
Establish pivot foot immediately on catch, keep it planted
