San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama will not face a suspension or fine following his flagrant foul and subsequent ejection during Sunday's Game 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The NBA completed its review of the incident, in which Wembanyama threw an elbow that struck Naz Reid in the neck, and determined that further discipline was unnecessary.

The ejection, which occurred with 8:39 remaining in the second quarter, marked the first of Wembanyama's career and the earliest an All-Star has been tossed from a playoff game in the play-by-play era. Despite the early exit of their franchise cornerstone, the Spurs battled but ultimately fell 114-109, allowing the Timberwolves to even the Western Conference Semifinals series at 2-2.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson vehemently defended Wembanyama after the game, dismissing the notion of a suspension. "There was zero intent... I think it would be ridiculous," Johnson stated. He further emphasized the physical toll opponents inflict on the young star, noting, "At some point, he's going to have to protect himself. We've been asking (the officials) to do that now for a while... the lack of protection is really disappointing. At some level, it's starting to get actually disgusting."

The league's decision not to suspend Wembanyama hinges on its flagrant foul points system. A Flagrant 2 foul incurs two points, but a suspension requires an accumulation of four points during the postseason. Wembanyama's clean track record in this regard played a significant role in his availability for the crucial Game 5.

As the series shifts back to San Antonio for Game 5, the Spurs will need Wembanyama to channel his frustration into a dominant performance. The Timberwolves, buoyed by Anthony Edwards' 36-point effort in Game 4, carry momentum into the pivotal matchup. The outcome of this series could very well hinge on how Wembanyama responds to the heightened physicality and the scrutiny surrounding his recent ejection.
