Common Mistakes
Flaring Elbows Outwards
Allowing the elbows to move excessively outwards reduces the tension on the triceps, particularly the long head, and shifts stress to the shoulder joint. This can lead to shoulder impingement or discomfort over time.
Excessive Lumbar Arching
Arching the lower back excessively (hyperextension) can occur when the weight is too heavy or core stability is lacking. This places undue stress on the lumbar spine, increasing the risk of lower back pain or injury.
Incomplete Range of Motion
Not fully extending the elbows at the top or not lowering the weight sufficiently at the bottom limits the muscle's time under tension and the full stretch of the triceps. This reduces the exercise's effectiveness for muscle hypertrophy.
